 QUILOTOA OVERVIEW :
 A brief history of Quilotoa, a dormant crater lake. The lake is 24om deep 
      and its water is alkaline, no fish live here. The Lake is located 1 hour

 HIKING DOWN INTO QUILOTOA LAKE
 Walking from the topo of the crater, opposite to park area, down to the 
      lakes edge takes betwen 30-45 minutes. Under normal circomstances, flip-flops 
      suffice, but for Laguna Quilotoa sturdy footwear is a must. The pathway 
      at times is very steep and narrow. Although the sandy surface helps kep 
      you grip, watch out for slippery jagged rocks.

 WALKING DOWN HILL TO QUILOTOA LAKE
 Watch out for the young sheep herders who come running down the cliffs at 
      suicidal pace, followed closely by their flocks of sheep. It can be quite 
      scary to look behind you 100 or more sheep racing towards you.

 It is a large lake filling the crater of an extinct volcano. Juss off the 
      loop road about 14 kilometers north of Zumbahua lies the wee village of 
      Quilotoa and the mysterious emerald waters or its illustrious volcanic crater

 HORSES FOR RENT AT QUILOTOA LAKE
 The precipitous hike around the rim takes 4-5 hours, and the steep plunge 
      down to the lake itself can be done in a three hour round-trip. Horse are 
      available for rent at the rim for the ascent.

 Bright turquoise water caused by dissolved minerals, makes this deep crater 
      lake a startling mirage amid the breezy surrounding hills. The Quilotoa 
      Lake is part of the Iliniza Ecological Reserve.

      anything living in it, but it is potable for animals, not humans and it 
      is very very very cold
